August 13 - 16 at the Samboree in Gunnison

.

Eight rigs from the Hammin' Sams attended the Samboree in Gunnison, August 13 - 16, 2009. We had a good time.  We decorated the stage, and the banquet tables for Saturday night.  We had 2 of our members take prizes for the senior golf  championship.  Bandit, who belongs to Jim & Jean Amburn, took 1st in the Dog Costume contest.  Buffy, who belongs to Sue & Galen Steele & was ineligible as Sue was in charge of the contest, looked pretty in her pink tutu anyway.  The Hammin' Sams scrapbook took a 1st place ribbon.  Many of us entered pictures in the photo contest, which is always fun even though none of us won a ribbon.  Three of us entered our salsas in the salsa contest, but again, none of us took a ribbon.  Jean Amburn gave a card making class.  Our hams set up a radio station again and gave a class on the use of ham radio in R.V.ing.  We had a raffle table mostly of items we made.  We had a basket on the raffle table for used glasses and had 24 pairs donated.  We enjoyed the games, contests, programs, drawings, meeting old friends and making new ones.  We all went out together on Thursday (Early-Bird) night for dinner which was fun (even though Jean accidentally poured some of her beef broth down Ron's back).

On August 28 - 30, 2009 we had 7 rigs at the Pueblo KOA and one couple came just for the Friday night meeting and potluck. Saturday we spent several hours wrapping and filling Elder boxes to be sent to the Indian reservations by One Nation Walking Together.  We made 16 boxes for men, 14 boxes for women and 4 boxes for young girls which Susan & Ed Sommerfield took to ONWT.  We plan on doing more boxes in November.  We have taken several loads of furniture and household items to ONWT also. AT the KOA we also enjoyed the pool, the ice cream cones and the campfire Saturday night.

On September 18 -20 we will be at the Cripple Creek KOA, dressing as Hobo's for the Saturday night potluck and meeting.  Then we will be at Mountaindale October 16 - 18 for our Halloween costume party.  November will see us at Old Chicago's for our meeting and in December we will have our Christmas party.
