AROUND THE CAMPFIRE

A short synopsis of the past year ...  for the Good Luck Sam's

in October 2008, in Manitou Springs, Colorado - Our final campout of the year was a smashing success.  We held a scavenger hunt in town which was won by Sara Igyarto and Jorgette Krsulic, who donated their prize to another non-profit.  Accepted by secret ballot, our chapter welcomed Keith and Becky Monnig (and their daughter Jasmine) who are currently converting a 40' bus.  We are looking forward to their progress at each meeting.  We were also following the progress of young Garrett Ross, who had just undergone his 2nd heart transplant.  Happy Birthday to Carol Ann Oberg, Bonnie Steinbrink.  Happy Anniversary to Lanny & Thella Geib.

In November 2008, at the Bon Ton Cafe in Manitou Springs, Colorado - This was the month for Thank You's - as we received thanks from the Indian Reservation for our donation of the shoe boxes that stuffed with school supplies for the kids.  Thanks were also received for our donations to Pikes Peak Hospice, Catholic Charities and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The funds for these charities was raised during our Chapter Stint at the El Paso County Fair.  Happy Birthday to Jerry Butler, Russ Stott, Buck Hayes, Barbara Volkmann.  Happy Anniversaries to Mel & Dee trafton, Earl & Bonnie Steinbrink, Bill and Carol Oberg.

Our December 2008 meeting was our Chapter Christmas Party and Officer Installation, held at the Elk's Lodge, in Colorado Springs.  The 2009 Officers are to be:  Jan Towne, President; Lanny Geib, Vice-President; Will Bishop, Treasurer; and Jorgette Krsulic, Secretary. This event was hosted by the 2008 Chapter Officers.  Happy Birthday to Inge Johnson, Carlos Garcia, Dick Koprowski and Becky Monnig (same day/many years apart), Ana Garcia and Evelyn Koprowski.  Happy Anniversary to Galen & Sue Steele and Jerry and Yvonne Butler.

In January 2009, we gathered at Senor Manuels in Colorado Springs, Colorado - Galen Steele announced the Fudd-Ducker to Albuquerque in April to the Camporama.  Dick Koprowski sent around the list for this years campouts and meetings, looking for Wagon masters.  Happy Birthday to Yvonne Butler, Pappy Johnson and Mel Trafton.  Happy Anniversary to the Johnson's and the Garcia's.

Our February 2009 meeting was held at the Old Chicago's on Austin Bluffs.  This meeting was well attended and plans began for the years campouts...  Happy Birthday to Bob Igyarto, Bill Oberg, Jasmine Monnig, Lanny Geib, Thella Geib.  Happy Anniversary to the Halls and the Igyarto.

In March 2009 our chapter descended on the Steinbrink home in Colorado Springs and had a marvelous time!  Earl and Bonnie's home is wonderful designed in teh Southwest style, we were are impressed.  Lots of Camaraderie between members.  Our thoughts are with Arnold & Jan Culp, a longtime members, doing well in Arizona.  Happy Birthday to JR Hall and Sue Steele.

The April 2009 has held at the Country Buffet in Colorado Springs,  We were joined at this Meeting by the El Paso County Fair Queen who honored us with her acceptance speech.  Our chapter contributes to the expenses of the Fair Queen each year with a donation from the money earned by the Chapter at the El Paso County Fair each year.  Plans for the Fudd-Duckers, the Samboree, Volunteers for the Races.  By Secret ballot, Carol and Ray McCorkle were voted in as members.  Happy Birthday Martie Stott,

Our May 2009 campout was held at Mountaindale, south of Colorado Springs, was highly anticipated by all,.  This was a joint campout with the Kissing Camels Chapter for the games and pot-luck dinner.  Bongo Ball and Washer Toss were a hit with the chapters.  We participated in the National Good Sam's Clean-Up campaign.  Our chapter was awarded the State President's award for 31 years of RVing.  Sue Steele presented some ideas for the Samboree - so everyone get ready to have a great time.  Our thoughts are with Arnold Culp, a longtime member, who passed away.  Happy Birthdays to Carolyn Hall, Boris Krsulic, Harry Volkmann, .

In June 2009 -  we camped along the Arkansas River in Cotopaxi at Loma Linda KOA.  What a wonderful and peaceful setting.  Plans for the Beer Dock are underway.  The "Beer Dock" is our chapter fundraiser for the year, where our chapter members camp out at the Fair and man the Beer Dock.  The "earnings" from this endeavor pay for the chapter members Christmas party and all "tips" are donated to charity.  A longtime member Russ Reid passed away - a donation was made to the kidney Foundation in his name.  Happy Anniversary to the Monnigs.

Our September 2009 campout was held at Chatfield State Park in Littleton, Colorado.  This was a very well attended campout in a beautiful state park with terrible weather.  It rained the 50% of the time!  The food was great and our theme was in honor of Patriot Day.  Our craft project was a success with members building flag poles to display our nation's flag during campouts.  Boris donated the supplies and Jorgette provided the direction.  Happy Birthday to Harold Kehl, Earl Koprowski, Jan Towne, Will Bishop, Sara Igyarto, Jim Kearney.  Happy Anniversary to Koprowski, Stott, and Volkmann,
