CAMPFIRE
A short synopsis of the past
year ... for the Good Luck Sam's
in October 2008, in Manitou
Springs, Colorado - Our final campout of the year was a
smashing success. We held a scavenger hunt in town
which was won by Sara Igyarto and Jorgette Krsulic, who
donated their prize to another non-profit. Accepted by
secret ballot, our chapter welcomed Keith and Becky
Monnig (and their daughter Jasmine) who are currently
converting a 40' bus. We are looking forward to their
progress at each meeting. We were also following the
progress of young Garrett Ross, who had just undergone
his 2nd heart transplant. Happy Birthday to Carol Ann
Oberg, Bonnie Steinbrink. Happy Anniversary to Lanny &
Thella Geib.
In November 2008, at the Bon
Ton Cafe in Manitou Springs, Colorado - This was the
month for Thank You's - as we received thanks from the
Indian Reservation for our donation of the shoe boxes
that stuffed with school supplies for the kids. Thanks
were also received for our donations to Pikes Peak
Hospice, Catholic Charities and the Make-A-Wish
Foundation. The funds for these charities was raised
during our Chapter Stint at the El Paso County Fair.
Happy Birthday to Jerry Butler, Russ Stott, Buck Hayes,
Barbara Volkmann. Happy Anniversaries to Mel & Dee
trafton, Earl & Bonnie Steinbrink, Bill and Carol Oberg.
Our December 2008 meeting
was our Chapter Christmas Party and Officer
Installation, held at the Elk's Lodge, in Colorado
Springs. The 2009 Officers are to be: Jan Towne,
President; Lanny Geib, Vice-President; Will Bishop,
Treasurer; and Jorgette Krsulic, Secretary. This event
was hosted by the 2008 Chapter Officers. Happy Birthday
to Inge Johnson, Carlos Garcia, Dick Koprowski and Becky
Monnig (same day/many years apart), Ana Garcia and
Evelyn Koprowski. Happy Anniversary to Galen & Sue
Steele and Jerry and Yvonne Butler.
In January 2009, we gathered
at Senor Manuels in Colorado Springs, Colorado - Galen
Steele announced the Fudd-Ducker to Albuquerque in April
to the Camporama. Dick Koprowski sent around the list
for this years campouts and meetings, looking for
Wagon masters. Happy Birthday to Yvonne Butler, Pappy
Johnson and Mel Trafton. Happy Anniversary to the
Johnson's and the Garcia's.
Our February 2009 meeting
was held at the Old Chicago's on Austin Bluffs. This
meeting was well attended and plans began for the years
campouts... Happy Birthday to Bob Igyarto, Bill Oberg,
Jasmine Monnig, Lanny Geib, Thella Geib. Happy
Anniversary to the Halls and the Igyarto.
In March 2009 our chapter
descended on the Steinbrink home in Colorado Springs and
had a marvelous time! Earl and Bonnie's home is
wonderful designed in teh Southwest style, we were are
impressed. Lots of Camaraderie between members. Our
thoughts are with Arnold & Jan Culp, a longtime members,
doing well in Arizona. Happy Birthday to JR Hall and
Sue Steele.
The April 2009 has held at
the Country Buffet in Colorado Springs, We were joined
at this Meeting by the El Paso County Fair Queen who
honored us with her acceptance speech. Our chapter
contributes to the expenses of the Fair Queen each year
with a donation from the money earned by the Chapter at
the El Paso County Fair each year. Plans for the Fudd-Duckers,
the Samboree, Volunteers for the Races. By Secret
ballot, Carol and Ray McCorkle were voted in as
members. Happy Birthday Martie Stott,
Our May 2009 campout was
held at Mountaindale, south of Colorado Springs, was
highly anticipated by all,. This was a joint campout
with the Kissing Camels Chapter for the games and
pot-luck dinner. Bongo Ball and Washer Toss were a hit
with the chapters. We participated in the National Good
Sam's Clean-Up campaign. Our chapter was awarded the
State President's award for 31 years of RVing. Sue
Steele presented some ideas for the Samboree - so
everyone get ready to have a great time. Our thoughts
are with Arnold Culp, a longtime member, who passed
away. Happy Birthdays to Carolyn Hall, Boris Krsulic,
Harry Volkmann, .
In June 2009 - we camped
along the Arkansas River in Cotopaxi at Loma Linda KOA.
What a wonderful and peaceful setting. Plans for the
Beer Dock are underway. The "Beer Dock" is our chapter
fundraiser for the year, where our chapter members camp
out at the Fair and man the Beer Dock. The "earnings"
from this endeavor pay for the chapter members Christmas
party and all "tips" are donated to charity. A longtime
member Russ Reid passed away - a donation was made to
the kidney Foundation in his name. Happy Anniversary to
the Monnigs.
In July 2009 we camped at
the El Paso County Fair. Members also assisted with the
clean-up of the Fairgrounds. By secret ballot Bill and
Anagret Sessoms were voted in as members of Good Luck
Sam's. Happy Birthday to Jeff Towne, Dee Trafton, Galen
Steele. Happy Anniversary to the Krsulic's.
Our August campout was the
Colorado Samboree, held in Gunnison, Colorado. Chapter
members took part in the festivities and joined in all
of the outdoor fun! Our chapter didn't win the Game
Flag but we took home several Awards: 1st Place to Dick
Koprowski at the Golf Challenge, JR Hall took 2nd
place. Doubles in Horseshoes - First Place - Boris
Krsulic (with Dave H. of Aspen Leaves). The Homemade
Salsa Contest was won by Jorgette Krsulic (per request
the recipe follows). The Ladies Tea had a surprise
guest, Dame Wilma and her pet, Paco. Dame Wilma is the
alter ego of Will Bishop and a great job he did!
Carolyn Hall hosted the USA Flag and bead event that was
very well attended. Jeff Towne hosted a computer semnar
that was well attended and informative. Galen and Sue
Steele hosted the Dog Contest. A big thanks to the Good
Luck Sam's State Staff: Galen & Sue Steele, JR & Carolyn
Hall, Jeff & Jan Towne - Congrats for a Successful
Samboree! Happy Birthday to Jorgette Krsulic.
Our September 2009 campout
was held at Chatfield State Park in Littleton,
Colorado. This was a very well attended campout in a
beautiful state park with terrible weather. It rained
the 50% of the time! The food was great and our theme
was in honor of Patriot Day. Our craft project was a
success with members building flag poles to display our
nation's flag during campouts. Boris donated the
supplies and Jorgette provided the direction. Happy
Birthday to Harold Kehl, Earl Koprowski, Jan Towne, Will
Bishop, Sara Igyarto, Jim Kearney. Happy Anniversary to
Koprowski, Stott, and Volkmann,
It has been a great year for
the Good Luck Sam's and we are looking forward to our
winter meetings to come. Good Camping and SAfe
Traveling to all!
Here is the Homemade Salsa Recipe submitted by
Jorgette
Krsulic that won 1st prize at the Samboree...
1 can (28 oz. diced tomatoes (in their juice)
1 medium green pepper
1/2 white onion
2 jalenino's
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 bunch cilantro
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cumin
Be sure all ingredients are fresh.
Dice all ingredients. Mix & Enjoy.
